Music. Recording. Coffee. Food.

Ribs, Wings, and new/old Friends

It’s a small world and it continues to get smaller all of the time. As it turns out, two of the baristas (Hannah & Nick) that had initially trained Lauren and I (at what was once known as MBS) are now married and in a post-rock band. They had just so happened to be playing a show at Be Here Now and were looking for a place to crash after their show. They knew we were from the area and got in touch. We were happy to welcome the band into our home and catch up on all that has transpired since the years separating our last face-to-face encounter. Oh, and what sort of hosts would we be if we didn’t fire up the smoker and treat the whole band to some top notch BBQ!? So that’s just what we did. Being that there wasn’t a ton of time to prep, I opted for chicken wings and spare ribs. There’s nothing better than good food, music, friends, and conversation. We stayed up wayyyyyy too late catching up. I hadn’t been up until 4:30AM in a long time.

The wings were seasoned with a South African Piri Piri Pepper rub and the ribs were done in my traditional salt, black pepper, brown sugar, paprika, and chipotle rub. Both came out phenomenal as I’m pretty comfortable and confident with these cooks.

Coffee Roasting has Begun!

I’ve met a lot of people throughout my life via various different outlets. Whether it be music, cooking, consulting, teaching, recording, or coffee… Sometimes I lose track as to which people are in tune with the various aspects of what I’m doing on a regular basis. I do a lot of things and I know that it can be confusing. That’s why I keep my blog and instagram. It helps to make sense of what would otherwise just look like chaos to anyone just taking a quick look. Anyway, if you’ve been keeping up with my shit in any sort of capacity, you would know that coffee is something that I take very seriously. Life’s too short to spend on the lackluster. With that being said, we’ve taken the next step when it comes to quality control at The Caffeinery and opted to start our own coffee roasting program. I’ve spent the last year reading every text on the subject that I could get my hands on. I’ve been talking with roasters, listening to podcasts, studying videos, and have essentially done everything possible to prepare me for this moment. As my wife often says, I don’t have hobbies, I have obsessions. There’s probably a good amount of truth in that. At the moment, I’m fully immersing myself into the art and science of roasting coffee. My goal is to create a program with objective scientific protocols that will ensure continuous improvement in quality that will ultimately improve every aspect of our offerings both at our physical shop as well as an eventual online shop. Stay tuned for more!

Happy Holidays!

Happy Holiday Season, everyone!

It looks as if we’ve survived another 365ish days around the ol’ fireball, and as usual, we have all had our fair share of ups and downs. Despite the tumultuous nature of human existence, we are extremely thankful to share this weird and wonderful world with all of you amazing people!

If you could all just take a quick second to ponder the seemingly impossible series of both cosmic and miniscule variables that had to occur in just the right way for you to exist! Each one of you makes this world a better place in your own unique way. You are all magical beings with such an incredible capacity to change the world around you for the better. Never forget that! Love your friends, family, pets, neighbors, and even strangers for more than just the holidays, and hope that they will do the same. Be sure to celebrate yourselves as well… pet a cat (if you’re not allergic), eat ice cream without pants on, order a pizza, whatever you fancy!

Thanks for being in our lives!

Love you all,

Frank, Lauren, Max, Boots, Jude, and Ruby

Blizzard Tunes

It’s icy and cold outside, soooooo I thought it would be the perfect time to set up the studio for some heavy bass riffs. Mission accomplished. This bi-amp setup is delivering the heavy and saturated sounds that my soul desires.

Holidays 4 Days!

It’s that time of year when our cats get super pumped because there are wayyyyy more decorations and adornments for them to destroy. They are the great destroyers of all things extra. I’m pretty sure they think the Christmas tree is just a seasonal cat toy. While it can be annoying at times, for the most part it’s amusing and I’m good with it. I mean, just look at this cute little idiot.

Late Night Snackage

When it’s really snowy outside and you just need a late night snack, but you can’t decide whether or not you want something sweet or savory. Sooooo, you just opt for both. What you are seeing here is a amazing peanut butter and homemade strawberry jam sammich topped with a delicious pan-fried ham sammich. No rules.
