Valentines Day 2013

My wife woke up early and surprised me with this awesome V-Day breakfast. Heart-shaped pancakes and all! She really outdid herself. Oh, and for those of you that don’t know… that juice is a special creation of ours. It’s orange juice mixed with cranberry juice.  It’s absolutely amazing.

Anyway, I’m not one to be outdone. She will be surprised with flowers and candy and later we will partake in our tradition of eating pizza and watching movies in the comfort of our own home rather than battling all of the newly formed awkward couples competing for booths at local eateries. Besides, our place is pants-optional.

thefrizzle.com

This was the URL for my old blog which some of you may remember. I made it popular and now GoDaddy.com is charging a premium for it. I wonder who will pay close to $3k for my old nickname in high school. Anyway, I’ve moved thefrizzle.com to madfrancis.tumblr.com if anyone is interested in checking it out.

RPM Songwriting Challenge

Shit just got real. I’ve signed myself up for the RPM songwriting challenge. I would have signed up earlier this month but I only just found out that it existed today. The challenge is for songwriters to create either 10 songs or 35 minutes of original music. I discovered this challenge at a convenient time. I was already planning on writing and recording a 5-song EP on an iPad as a creative exercise for one of my grad school classes. In my brain, I was able to justify to myself that writing five more songs wouldn’t be a big deal. We’ll see how that pans out. I have a lot going on this month with teaching, being a student, recording, renovations, and being a husband. I’m hoping to get off to a strong start this weekend.

Halloween 2012

The other night I hosted yet another Halloween show @ The Fickle Peach. This year the entertainment consisted of performances by Cory Hill and The Meanies. There was an abundance of craft beers being consumed by costume-clad patrons. My wife dressed up as a pumpkin. I think she was the cutest girl there but I’m partially biased because we’re married. Oh well, she cute little pumpkin.

Indie Game: The Movie

Tonight I had the pleasure of watching this documentary about the trials and tribulations of a few independent video game creators. I gave this documentary a 5 out of 5. It was very well done and managed to give a great deal of insight into the stressful issues involved in creating a unique game. I appreciate that the focus was centered around the people and not just the technology and code. This made the story relatable to a wider audience of people that otherwise might not have sat through the entire film.

I’ve learned that independent game makers and song writers are not all that different. I like to think that the majority of creators share similar experiences and emotions regardless of their chosen medium. However, I can’t speak for everyone. We’re all different and have our own opinions and views. That being said, it’s time for me to go to sleep. I have to be showered and ready to teach class in the early AM.

Judi Lee Micro Documentary

Here’s a shitty soft-focus glimpse of a micro documentary that I have been editing for the past couple of days. The documentary is focused on local Muncie musician, Judi Lee. Judi came into my studio a few weeks ago to record a 5-song EP consisting of cover songs originally composed by Indiana bands that she had grown up listening to.

I am hoping to wrap up the editing process in the next couple of weeks. As soon as I am comfortable with it, I will upload it to vimeo and embed it in a blog post. I wish I had more time to devote to editing but I’m being stretched pretty thin between grad school, teaching, recording, and filming. Life is feeling pretty crazy at the moment.
