Musical Family Tree Sessions

Starting this month, I will be selecting bands to come into the studio to perform five original compositions to be recorded free of charge. I will be posting these recordings to the Musical Family Tree archive so that they may be enjoyed by all. Selected bands will also be subject to a photo shoot and interview session as part of the promotional package.

The overall goal, of course, is a cross promotional campaign that benefits everyone involved. Bands will be given a chance to utilize free studio time to record new material that will be shared with the thousands of people that visit Musical Family Tree every month. Musical Family Tree will benefit by having a steady stream of exclusive and new content to offer its viewers. The studio will benefit by the exposure that comes with performing such tasks. Everybody wins!

So why would I be willing to offer up my services free-of-charge to selected bands? I have been in bands and I know how hard it can be to get your name out there. I guess you could say that I’m attempting to pay it forward in a sense. I like to think that by trying to help everyone, it will create a better musical community and that my hard work will be enjoyed by countless ears. I am hoping to bring some well-deserved attention to some of the finest musical acts that Indiana has to offer. If you are interested in being considered for selection, please feel free to contact me through the website.

Happy New Year 2012!

Happy New Year! I hope that everyone made it home safe and DUI-free! With any luck your hangovers are already in remission. I can’t believe it’s 2012 already. Where did all the time go? Eh, I guess time flies when you’re having fun.

I would like to thank The Fickle Peach for asking me to organize their NYE party. I would also like to thank Cowboy Angels, The Bashville Boys, DJ Jannell and The Cocaine Wolves for helping us all bring in 2012 in style. All I did was organize and run sound… The bands provided all of the content. Hats off to them!

Oh, and last but not least… I would like to thank everyone that shelled out $5 to come and celebrate with us! Without you it would not have been as fun. The place was PACKED. We ended up having to turn people away at certain points because we were over capacity! Thanks again for making it a night to remember!

I recorded the show on my new handheld recorder! I will try to put it on MFT at some point this week. Keep your eyes and ears open for it.

FEVERDREAM: Pale and Naked

Here’s a musical piece/arrangement that Nicholas Brent Rapley and I both wrote and recorded earlier this last spring. It’s so fresh that my faders are still dissipating the residual heat from my finger tips. This is the first instrumental track to be released under FEVERDREAM. The sound is dark and eerie with a lot of potential for use as a soundtrack. As of this moment in time, this particular track will exist as a single. That being said, I have been toying with the idea of creating 4 additional instrumental pieces that are heavy on the texture. Perhaps I’ll make a short EP of potential soundtracks…? I guess we’ll just have to see what happens.

So without further adieu…

The Bonesetters on KickStarter.com

These guys spent 14-days recording here at Reber Recording in Muncie, Indiana. Sadly, the record label that was footing the bill (ahem.. Mossback Records) ended up crashing and burning in a horribly unpleasant mess of poverty and despair. However, like a magnificent phoenix, The Bonesetters are unshook. They are determined to find the necessary funds to get their album off of the studio shelf and into the ears of their fans. BUT THEY NEED YOUR HELP!!!! Please donate whatever money you can spare and help them to put out this record. They have worked really hard to make it sound as large and amazing as possible. They really really really really want you to hear it. I want you to hear it as well. So, let’s make it happen! Open up your digital wallets and make it rain!

Fancy Coffee Skills

Ever since I started interning at Electrical Audio, my coffee making abilities have improved ten-fold. That’s right, I be making all of the delectable and delicious gourmet shits for your caffeine-consumin-asses. This is my take on the Electrical Audio “Signature Coffee.” They call it the “Fluffy Coffee” but I’m not a big fan of the name. It’s far too twink. It should be called “Maple Flavored Diarrhea.” That’s far more accurate. Not because it taste like diarrhea, because you’ll drink it so fast that it gives you diarrhea. Don’t get it confused. It’s delicious.

Last Day of Tracking w/ Mikey Mason

Today is the last day scheduled for tracking with Mikey Mason. From here on out we’ll be working on mixing and then move on to mastering. We celebrated the end of tracking with some delicious brews that Mikey had brought to the studio. Don’t let the can fool you, this little guy packed one hell of a punch. Deliciously potent in all of its alcohol glory.
