I Love Snow

I Love Snow

I Love Snow

It’s winter again and that means SNOW!!!!!! Winter is my favorite season; primarily because of snow. Well, not just the snow itself, but more of the effects that the snow has on people and the community as a whole. I love how snow has the ability to slow life down and make people appreciate things that they normally take for granted. The way that it tests preparedness both individually and as a whole community. People won’t just travel when it’s snowing for anyone! You can always tell who your good friends are by whether or not they come and visit you in the winter. 🙂 It’s pretty hard to coerce me out of my comfy lounge-wear and into boots and a jacket to voyage out into the cold and gray outdoors just to visit someone.

I enjoy the stints of isolation that come with snowstorms. The isolation comes with a peaceful state of mind that, for once, there is time to get things accomplished that the noise of life had gotten in the way of. There are thoughts that can actually be heard once the power has been out for a few days and there’s the quiet before the buzz of petrol powered generators. Limbs breaking in the wind, heavy with ice. This picture shows the transition that comes when a pre-snow mental state collides with the first snowstorm of the season. Everyone tries their hardest to maintain their normal day-to-day speeds while the snow is slowly but assuredly slowing everything down.

Ugly Christmas Sweater Party

Ugly Christmas Sweaters

Ugly Christmas Sweaters

My fiancĂ©, Lauren Bultman, and I hosted a Ugly Christmas Sweater Party on Friday. She, being the photographer that she is,  set up a photo booth to capture all of our sweaters in all of their humorous glory. I mean, I can’t think of a better way to get a jump on Christmas then by celebrating with ugly Christmas sweaters. They are the epitome of Christmas!  However, sweaters just side of the Christmas Pyramid. The party must also include way more food and booze than any individual person should ever consume in a single day… let alone a single sitting. And last but not least… There needs to be an abundance of Christmas music filling rooms filled with cheesy decorations purchased at local dollar stores. That’s it!

Baked Potato Pizza

Baked Potato Pizza

For those of you that don’t already know it, I’m going to profess my love of cooking right now. Whenever I’m not writing, playing, or recording music… I’m in the kitchen making something delicious.  At least, that’s the goal anyway. Everyone has their good and bad days in the kitchen. However, today was a good day!

Last Christmas my baby sister, Molly, bought me a sweet bread maker that has been used heavily throughout the last year. I have been finding and revising a number of breads in the search for what I consider to be perfection. Today is the day that I perfected pizza dough. After many attempts that had resulted in a displeasing finished product, I have finally produced the results I have been desiring. The first pizza to be constructed with this new dough recipe was the baked potato pizza that you see pictured above. Delicious and yet simple. I’m not much for typing up recipes so I’m not going to. However, if someone is interested enough to write me an e-mail suggesting that I do so than I will.

Stomping Ground Session

Stomping Ground Session

Makeshift Remote Recording Setup

Over the weekend I recorded a band (comprised of good friends of mine) by the name of “Stomping Ground” in a vacant apartment in downtown Muncie. Beer, space heaters, microphones, and tube amps. This was the first time that these guys have played together in five years. I took it upon myself to record the reunion and capture the excitement of playing again. Since the intended audience for these recordings was going to be the band members I decided to be liberal with recording times and made sure to capture as much conversation between takes as possible. I got over 3 hours worth of audio. Everyone had a great time. It will be exciting to go back through all of the audio.
